Delta Police Disburse N25.4m to Families of 46 Dead Officers

The Delta State Police Command has disbursed N25.4 million to families and next-of-kin of 46 police officers who died while serving in the command.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, presented the cheques, valued at N25,405,226.57, to the beneficiaries at the command headquarters in Asaba on Thursday.

The payment was made under the welfare and insurance schemes of the Nigeria Police Force to provide financial assistance to families of deceased personnel.

Erale said the gesture reflected the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the welfare of police officers and families of personnel who died in service.

He said the financial support could not replace the lives lost but would help cushion the impact of the loss on the affected families.

“Although no amount of money can replace the lives of the deceased officers, this intervention demonstrates the Force's resolve to ensure that the sacrifices of its personnel are remembered and that their families are not abandoned,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Moses Evelyn Animi expressed appreciation to the police authorities, saying the families were surprised when they were contacted about the payments.

She thanked the Nigeria Police Force for remembering and supporting families of officers who had died in service.

The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to deploy the funds judiciously, particularly towards the education and welfare of the children and other dependants left behind.

He also assured serving police officers that the command would continue to facilitate the prompt processing of legitimate welfare and insurance claims.

Erale reaffirmed that the welfare of police personnel and their families remained a priority of the Nigeria Police Force.
