Delta Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer, Recover Locally Made Gun

The Delta State Police Command has recovered a locally made firearm and arrested a 40-year-old woman suspected of drug peddling in separate operations in Effurun and Agbor.

The police said the operations were conducted on September 4 and 6, 2026, respectively.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, two masked men armed with a locally made shotgun invaded the residence of a 48-year-old man in the Charlisco area of NPA Express Road, Effurun, at about 5:30 a.m. on September 4.

The victim reportedly confronted one of the suspects and struggled with him, resulting in the firearm breaking. The second suspect allegedly hit the victim on the forehead before both men fled, leaving the damaged gun behind.

The incident was reported at Ekpan Police Division at about 6:14 a.m., after which police operatives were deployed to the scene.

The broken firearm was recovered, while the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. The police said a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects.

In Agbor, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), Ubulu-Uku, arrested Joy Anthony, 40, following credible intelligence about alleged drug activities.

The operation, conducted at about 5 a.m. on September 6, led to the execution of a search warrant at her residence in Agbor-Obi.

The police said quantities of substances suspected to be Swinol, Tramadol, Codeine, Canadian Loud and Indian hemp were recovered from the residence.

The suspect and the recovered exhibits are in police custody as the investigation continues.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the Effurun victim for his courage in confronting the armed suspects and assured him that the police would track down and arrest those responsible.

The Commissioner also appealed to residents to provide credible information that could assist the Command in combating crime across the state.
