DYTM Inaugurates Executives, Unveils Youth Empowerment Programmes Ahead of 2027

The newly inaugurated leadership of the Delta Youth Transformation Movement, DYTM, has pledged to use its growing youth network across the state to promote empowerment, community development and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The movement made the commitment on Tuesday in Asaba during the inauguration of its State Executive and Senatorial Executives, as youths from the 25 local government areas of Delta State gathered for the event.

The programme, organised by DYTM in conjunction with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, also featured the unveiling of the movement’s flagship programmes focused on youth empowerment, community transformation and sustainable development.

Speaking after his inauguration, the new President of DYTM, Comrade Isioma Odozi Melekwe, thanked members for entrusting him and other executive members with the responsibility of leading the movement.

Melekwe pledged to strengthen the organisation across the 25 local government areas and mobilise its members for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other All Progressives Congress candidates in the 2027 elections.

He said the new leadership would focus on building a strong grassroots structure while ensuring that young people were given opportunities to participate meaningfully in political and community development.

The Chairman of the occasion, former member of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, urged the youths to think beyond their immediate circumstances and work towards achieving leadership positions.

Elumelu said Delta State had produced individuals who rose to significant national positions, arguing that young people should not consider any position beyond their reach.

He also called for greater support for young entrepreneurs, noting that providing the necessary facilities and opportunities for young people could help strengthen the local economy and create employment.

The guest speaker, Hon. Solomon Funkekeme, who is the Renewed Hope Coordinator for Delta State, used the occasion to highlight some programmes of the Federal Government under President Tinubu.

Funkekeme said reforms in education, infrastructure, security and the economy were aimed at addressing some of the longstanding challenges facing Nigerians.

He particularly cited the student loan initiative as an intervention intended to help students who might otherwise be unable to continue their education because of financial difficulties.

The Renewed Hope Coordinator urged APC members to strengthen their grassroots structures and engage directly with communities as the 2027 elections approach.

He said political mobilisation should not be left until election periods, stressing the need for continuous engagement with the people.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Science and Technology and Delta North Patron of DYTM, Dr Daniel Odigie, commended the organisers and participants for the turnout.

Odigie said the presence of youths and other stakeholders from different parts of the state showed the potential of the movement, urging members to remain united and committed to its objectives.

The Commissioner for Transport and Delta Central Patron of DYTM, Hon. Onoriode Agofure, represented by Comrade Tega Akponine, also stressed the importance of unity.

Agofure urged members to put their efforts together and work towards achieving concrete results for the movement, particularly through effective grassroots coordination.

Representing the Grand Patron and Guest of Honour, Chief Nkem Okwuofu, the Vice Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Nneka Clara Dibia, said young people must not be neglected in the affairs of society.

Okwuofu noted that neglecting the youth amounted to neglecting the future of the country and urged members of DYTM to remain committed to the APC.

The immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, represented by the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Hon. Ezenyili Kelvin Obi, also called for unity among members.

Okowa said government policies at the federal level could affect development at the state and local government levels, particularly through resources available for projects and empowerment.

He urged members to support the movement and work towards building a strong political structure ahead of 2027.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Inauguration Committee, Sir Raymond E. Onwugbenu, said DYTM was created to harness the talents and energy of young people and turn them into positive contributions to society.

Onwugbenu said the movement would promote leadership, entrepreneurship and youth participation in development, stressing that young people should not only be prepared for the future but should also be empowered to make an impact today.

The inauguration formally established the movement’s leadership at the state and senatorial levels, with the new executives expected to coordinate activities across Delta State and implement its programmes on youth empowerment, community transformation and sustainable development.
