Delta Police Recover Three Pump-Action Guns, Suspected Stolen Motorcycles, Arrest Five

The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its campaign against violent crime with the recovery of three pump-action guns, three suspected stolen motorcycles, and the arrest of five suspects in separate operations across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, saying the arrests followed intelligence-led operations by officers attached to the Command.

According to the statement, operatives of the 'C' Division, Asaba, on July 27, intercepted one Joseph Tyavzua during a stop-and-search operation along the Asaba–Onitsha Expressway.

Edafe said the suspect was apprehended while attempting to enter Onitsha on a commercial motorcycle and was found in possession of a pump-action gun.
During interrogation, the suspect claimed to be a member of a vigilante group but failed to produce any lawful authority for possessing the firearm. The weapon was recovered, while the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

In a separate operation on the same day, operatives of the Ekpan Division arrested four suspects following the reported armed robbery of a motorcycle rider along Jakpa Road, Effurun.

The police identified the suspects as Edodo Gift, 41, and Emoefe Solomon, 27, who were arrested after a targeted investigation. According to the Command, the pair confessed to the crime and subsequently led investigators to two suspected receivers, Fodio Bello, 27, and Kabiru Mohammed, 25, at Otowhe, near Oleh.

The operation resulted in the recovery of two additional pump-action guns and three motorcycles suspected to have been stolen during robbery operations.

All four suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate, the police said.

Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers for their professionalism and dedication.

He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to intelligence-led policing and the sustained pursuit of violent criminals across the state.

The police commissioner also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid efforts to improve public safety in Delta State.
