Oborevwori Supports South Africa Returnees with ₦2m Grants, Monthly Allowances

The Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has graciously supported the 86 South Africa returnees with a whopping sum of two million Naira each to enable them to start businesses of their choice, as well as a monthly stipend to help rebuild their lives.

The intervention ceremony took place in Asaba during the reception and reintegration of the Delta indigenes who returned from South Africa.

Representing the Governor at the reception ceremony, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Prince Johnson Erijo, said the grant initiative is part of Governor Oborevwori's commitment to supporting Deltans who lost their businesses, property, and other means of livelihood during the attacks.

He said, "We watched with sadness the xenophobic attacks against fellow Africans in South Africa. No one deserves to be attacked, displaced, or forced to live in fear because of where they come from."

The Governor, however, assured the returnees that the state government would stand by them as they are reintegrated into society, rebuild their livelihoods, and recover from the traumatic experience.
Oborevwori also commended President Tinubu and the Federal Government for facilitating the safe evacuation and return of the affected Nigerians.

The Governor further noted that the returnees would undergo free medical screening at state-owned hospitals, while the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Services would provide trauma counselling to aid their emotional recovery.

The Governor appealed to communities to support the returnees, urging them to draw strength from their resilience and channel it into rebuilding successful lives at home.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Hon. Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Mr. Etacherure Terry, thanked the Governor for giving the approval after the State Emergency Management Agency exhausted its allocation for the year.
He disclosed that the Governor had directed that every returning Deltan be identified, documented, and provided with the necessary support.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Jacob Agbada from Isoko North Local Government Area expressed gratitude to the State Governor and the ministries that worked tirelessly to ensure they returned home and for the support they have received.
