Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise: Improve on compliance level, Ogodo tasks Deltans

The Delta State Commissioner for Environment , Hon Moses Ogodo, has called on Deltans to improve their level of compliance during the state-wide monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise.

The Environment Commissioner made the appeal at Udu , headquarters of Udu Local Government Area, while monitoring the exercise .

According to Hon Ogodo , cleanliness is next to godliness , and as such , it behoves on all and sundry to embrace the culture of cleanliness by clearing their surroundings and drains , as well as discouraging the idea of depositing waste along natural water ways .

While commending the residents of Udu for their cooperation and commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment , the Commissioner stressed the need for them to take the exercise more serious in order to make the environment clean and safe for all.

Hon Ogodo praised the efforts of the Udu Local Government Council Chairman , Olorogun Vincent Oyibode , the Environment and Sanitation department of the Council, community leaders , and other stakeholders, who are working tirelessly to mobilize residents and ensure a successful exercise .

According to the Environment Commissioner , "I am delighted to see that Udu people are taking ownership of their environment and steps are being taken by the Council Chairman and his team, to sustain the environment. We need to intensify our efforts to create more awareness about the importance of environmental sanitation".

While acknowledging that there is room for improvement , Hon Ogodo expressed optimism that the state will continue to make progress in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment .

In his response , Udu Local Government Chairman , Hon Vincent Oyibode, said his administration will continue to work with the people , to ensure that the environment remains clean and healthy , while urging residents in the local government area, to continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Environment directives by taking ownership of their environment .

The exercise was also marked with the prosecution of several environmental sanitation defaulters who were taken to the mobile court on various sanitation related offences.
