Hon Onwo Inspects Umeh PHC, Olomoro Hospital, Receives Royal Blessings In Umeh Kingdom

Determined to ensure quality healthcare for his people, the Chairman of the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Health and Member representing Isoko South Constituency II, Hon. (Chief) Ferguson Onwo, PhD, KSC, has inspected health facilities in Umeh and Olomoro communities in Isoko South Local Government Area.

Hon. Onwo commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the state.

He said the inspection was part of his oversight responsibilities and aimed at identifying critical needs and challenges that, when addressed, would strengthen and improve service delivery in the facilities.

The lawmaker’s first point of call was the agrarian Umeh community where he inspected the ongoing construction of the Umeh Primary Health Centre.

Onwo, who holds the traditional title of Othuke of Umeh Kingdom, said the facility tour was part of his commitment to good healthcare and improved quality of life in the constituency he represents.

Contractors on site assured him that the project would be completed within the next few months.

Following the inspection, the lawmaker paid a royal courtesy visit to the Regent of Umeh Kingdom, HRM Rockson Meshach Owhe, the Azano of Umeh Kingdom.

Onwo paid tribute to the revered monarch in recognition of his unwavering commitment to promoting peace, unity, and harmonious coexistence in Umeh Kingdom, and urged him not to lose focus in that regard.

He reaffirmed his resolve for good governance and the continuous growth and development of Umeh community, emphasizing that meaningful development can only flourish in an atmosphere of peace, unity, and cooperation.

The people appreciated Hon. Onwo for his leadership and commitment to community development and the improvement of healthcare infrastructure across Isoko South Constituency II, including Umeh.

They appealed to the lawmaker to help ensure early execution of projects in the locality to enhance the quality of life of the people.

From Umeh, Hon. Onwo proceeded to the Olomoro General Hospital, where he praised the efforts of the state government led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori towards infrastructural revolution across the state.

Acompanied by the Member representing Isoko Nationality on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Victor Egbo, the President-General of Olomoro Kingdom, Chief Anthony Ukpagba, and other community leaders, Onwo said much has been achieved in the health sector.

The delegation was received by the Hospital Administrator, Mr. Ukpuru Udoji, who conducted them round key facilities, including the male and female wards, operating theatre, labour ward, doctors' quarters and nurses' quarters.

He briefed the Lawmaker on critical areas requiring urgent attention geared towards enhancing healthcare services at the facility.

Speaking after the inspection, Hon. Onwo explained that Olomoro General Hospital, formerly an extension of Eku Baptist Hospital before it was handed over to the Delta State Government, had continued to provide essential healthcare services to residents of Olomoro and neighbouring communities.

While expressing satisfaction with the level of services being rendered, the lawmaker noted that the hospital requires further upgrading to meet the growing healthcare needs of the people. 

He added that the visit was to obtain firsthand information on the hospital’s needs and operational challenges to facilitate appropriate government intervention.

Also speaking, Chief Victor Egbo assured residents that DESOPADEC, with the support of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, would complement the state's efforts to improve infrastructure at the hospital. 

He stated that plans were underway to give the facility a facelift in the coming months, including the renovation of the hospital’s dilapidated doctors’ and nurses’ quarters, the records centre, landscaping of the hospital premises, and the procurement of a new transformer to ensure stable electricity supply.

Egbo added that DESOPADEC would commence immediate action on the identified needs before the electioneering campaign begins.

Responding, the President-General of Olomoro Kingdom, Chief Anthony Ukpagba, the Hospital Administrator, Mr. Ukpuru Udoji, and other stakeholders expressed appreciation to the Delta State Government and the visiting delegation for their concern and commitment to improving healthcare in the area.

Chief Ukpagba disclosed that some of the concerns earlier raised by the community had already received positive attention from the Delta State Commissioner for Health, including the approval of an ambulance for the hospital and the deployment of two medical doctors to strengthen healthcare service delivery.

He commended Hon. Ferguson Onwo, the Okpobrisi of Olomoro, and Chief Victor Egbo for the timely inspection visit.

Chief Ukpagba also reaffirmed the unwavering support of the people of Olomoro for the re-election of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, and all APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

In the entourage of the lawmaker were the two Councilors representing Olomoro Ward at the Isoko South Legislative Arm, Hon. Harrison Oheri and Hon. Nero Umeh, Chief Blessing Agboro, former PG of Olomoro Community, Chief Kingsley Karo, Chief Joe Amiri, Chief Charles Alakpa, his Legislative Aide, among others.
