Delta, TCN Partner to Strengthen Power Transmission, Improve Electricity Supply — Anoka

The Delta State Government says it is taking decisive steps to transform the state's power sector in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

The Commissioner for Energy, Michael Anoka, stated this while leading a high-level technical delegation on an assessment visit to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

He said the visit aimed to address transmission bottlenecks, improve grid stability, and establish a framework for more reliable electricity supply across the state's industrial and residential areas.

Anoka explained that the delegation conducted a comprehensive inspection of key transmission facilities in Sapele, Warri, and Ughelli.

He said the Ministry of Energy and TCN agreed to collaborate on critical interventions to strengthen the state's electricity transmission network.

According to him, Delta State has substantial power generation capacity that should be effectively harnessed to support economic growth and improve residents' quality of life.

The commissioner, an engineer, said Governor Oborevwori's administration remains committed to technical reforms that will promote sustainable industrialisation and reduce the cost of doing business.

He added that the reforms would also improve the socio-economic well-being of Deltans through more reliable electricity supply.

"Through this structured engagement with the Transmission Company of Nigeria, we are systematically removing transmission constraints that have historically limited efficient power distribution," Anoka said.

The delegation also inspected the Warri 132kV Transmission Station, which is expected to strengthen electricity supply to Effurun, Osubi, Ovwian/Orerokpe, Uvwie, Udu, and neighbouring communities when fully integrated.

The team further visited the TCN Delta Sub-Region Office in Ughelli.

During the visit, the Assistant Manager, Mr. Ken Chukwuemeka, conducted the delegation around the Afiesere Transmission Station.

The inspection formed part of the state government's broader strategy to strengthen electricity infrastructure and support industrial development through improved power transmission.
