Delta SUBEB Suspends Udu Education Secretary, Hon. Eki Afuevure, for Three Months Over Alleged Gross Misconduct

The Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has suspended the Education Secretary of the Udu Local Education Authority (LEA), Hon. Eki Afuevure, for three months over allegations of gross misconduct and the deliberate alteration and destruction of official staff records.

The suspension, which took effect on Monday, July 6, 2026, was announced in a press release signed by the Executive Chairman of the Board, Hon. Samuel Ogaga Mariere.

According to the Board, the disciplinary action followed allegations that the Education Secretary deliberately altered and destroyed official staff files, thereby preventing access to vital personnel information and compromising the integrity of records within the Udu Local Education Authority.

"The suspension is for gross misconduct and breach of official duties bordering on alleged deliberate alteration and destruction of official records and files of staff, thereby hindering access to vital information on staff of the Local Education Authority," the statement read.

To ensure a thorough investigation, the Board has constituted a six-member investigative panel chaired by Hon. Onome Akpokherhe. Other members are Chief Mrs. Josephine Edenren, Hon. Chief Rose Afejuku Esiso, Dean of Education Secretaries in Delta State, Mr. Frank Ogugbade, and Hon. Justice Iyasere, while the Acting Secretary to the Board, Mrs. Juliet Ezefili, will serve as secretary.

The committee has been mandated to determine why several staff files lack vital information, assess the extent of the destruction and decay of staff records and identify those responsible, as well as recommend appropriate actions regarding the Education Secretary's conduct and measures to restore the integrity of staff records in the Udu LEA.

"The committee is expected to ascertain why most files belonging to staff of the LEA did not contain vital information, determine the extent of the decay and destruction of records, identify all those involved, and recommend measures to salvage the integrity of staff records," the Board stated.

The panel has been given three months to complete its assignment and submit its report to the Board.

The suspension underscores the Board's commitment to accountability, transparency, and the protection of official records in the administration of basic education across Delta State.
