CNG Mass Transit Buses to Provide Safer, Affordable Transportation for Residents, Says Agofure

The Delta State Government has said the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered mass transit buses are aimed at providing residents with safer, more affordable, and comfortable transportation across the state.

The State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, disclosed this on Thursday during an interaction session with journalists at the State Secretariat in Asaba.

Agofure explained that the Governor's approval for the procurement of the CNG buses is part of his administration's people-centred agenda to address transportation challenges and improve public mobility.

The Commissioner hinted that the initiative was designed to provide reliable and cost-effective transportation while strengthening the state's public transport network.

He said, "The governor has graciously approved the purchase of CNG buses to implement the state's mass transit scheme.

"Governor Oborevwori's administration is committed to the welfare of the people, and these CNG buses are intended to provide cheap, safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation across Delta State."

Agofure revealed that before the approval, the state government had spent the past two years conducting route studies to ensure the efficient deployment of the buses.

"The mass transit service would operate on both inter-city and intra-city routes, covering major urban centres, including Asaba and Warri, as well as surrounding communities."

Speaking on the availability of CNG refuelling infrastructure, Agofure acknowledged the need for expansion but said existing facilities in Asaba and Warri would support the initial rollout of the programme, while discussions are ongoing with private investors to establish additional CNG refuelling stations in Kwale, Sapele, and Abraka to strengthen the network.

He expressed confidence that the initiative would transform public transportation in Delta State by improving commuter safety and comfort while providing residents with a more affordable and efficient means of travel.

Agofure, however, thanked the State Governor for giving him the opportunity and listening to the plight of Deltans.
