Oyowe Commends Homeless World Cup Initiative for Delta 35th Anniversary

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Delta State Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, has commended the move by Homeless World Cup Nigeria as part of its larger contribution to mark Delta State's 35th anniversary.

Comrade Churchill gave the commendation recently when the group's South-South Coordinator and CEO of Perveun Media, Mr. Cyrillic Odiaka-Gabriel, and his team paid him a courtesy visit at the NUJ Secretariat in Asaba.

Oyowe explained that the proposed Homeless World Cup Nigeria initiative was a good idea, but it requires a long-term perspective with significant potential for development if properly sustained.

Oyowe, however, expressed worries over the discontinuity of programmes once such an event comes to an end, adding that attention often shifts away completely rather than building on existing programmes for progress.

He said, "Development should be seen as a continuous process rather than isolated efforts. When continuity is lacking, progress becomes unstable and difficult to measure or sustain."

He, however, assured the Homeless World Cup group of the union's support and collaboration.

Earlier, in his remarks, the South-South Coordinator of Homeless World Cup Nigeria and Chief Executive Officer of Perveun Media, Mr. Cyrillic Odiaka-Gabriel, said the courtesy visit was to seek broader collaboration between the Union and Homeless World Cup Nigeria, and to explore how Delta journalists can be of benefit to the initiative.

He explained that the Homeless World Cup Nigeria initiative is part of a broader effort to reposition the state's image through its 35th anniversary in August 2026, and it aims to identify projects and introduce programmes to mark the milestone.

He said the Homeless World Cup Nigeria initiative is all encompassing and is aimed at nurturing talents through grassroots development in football, culture, education, and many other areas through sports and youth development.
