Ochei to Okowa: Allow Oborewvori to Breathe

…. slams Okowa for not allowing the governor to breathe because he made him governor

BOMBSHELL: Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Victor Ochei says his ambition in contesting the Delta North senatorial was to stop the emergence of a political dynasty in the district.

Ochei, who recently dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wondered why former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has dominating elective positions in Delta North, brazenly along with members of his family believing that nobody has the audacity to challenge him.

He stated this while speaking with members of his Political Support Group, weekend.

Ochei disclosed that at a point, the Governor called him and asked what could be done to change his position, by dropping his ambition in favour of Okowa but he rejected every form of political negotiation placed on the table.

His words: “He (Governor) asked what I wanted to persuade me and I said there is nothing you can give me. So it is not about Ochei, it is about Delta North.

“Okowa is bringing himself to contest the Senate, his in-law House of Representatives and his daughter House of Assembly. What impunity is that? Is he the only one in Delta North? He believes nobody can challenge him”.

While insisting that his senatorial ambition was not driven by personal political interests but by a desire to challenge what he termed “political impunity”, Ochei stated:

“I am contesting the Senate not because I actually wanted to, but somebody needs to challenge this impunity. So it is not about me, it is about Delta North people.

“People made Okowa governor, he chased all of them away and now he made somebody governor, he doesn’t want the person to breathe. Everything is still about him. That is not supposed to be so.

“God has blessed him — Councillor to Chairman to Commissioner to SSG to Senator to Governor and even Vice-Presidential candidate. What else do you want?
It is better to leave the stage when the ovation is loudest”, Ochei stated.

How I promoted peace in APC, fought hard to reconcile Senator Ned Nwoko and late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi

He lamented that despite his efforts to unite key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, he and other loyal members were eventually sidelined, a development he says contributed to his decision to leave the party.

Said he, “I am an old member of the APC. They came and met me. I opened the door for them. I did everything to ensure they were accepted.

“I went to Nwaoboshi, I pleaded with Ned Nwoko to unite all of them and when they settled in, they locked us out”, he lamented.

He however blamed the party’s national leadership for abandoning loyal members in favour of recent defectors.

APC members in Delta State enjoyed better recognition during Buhari’s administration

“During Buhari, we were better then. They told us Tinubu rewards loyalty, but behold what is happening. He handed over our party to people that just joined”, he added
