Às the nation celebrates June 12 to mark the sacrifices of the widely acclaimed winner of the elections, late M.K.O Abiola, as well as other pro-democracy activists. , the Delta State Governorship Candidate of the African Action Congress ( AAC), Engr Isaac .O. Eshor, has bemoaned the rising voter apathy in the polity , attributing it to frustrations of the citizenry with the electoral process.
The Delta AAC Guber Frontline also decried the riding wave of economic hardship and insecurity in the land , noting that the primary purpose of governance , is the welfare and protection of citizens , a task that supercedes any other.
In his Democracy Day message to Deltans , the African Action Congress ( AAC) Guber flag bearer for the 2027 elections in Delta , said celebrating democracy without harping on making votes of the citizens to count , totally negates the essence of true democracy.
Recalling the June 12, 1993 Presidential elections where the votes of Nigerians counted , as against the current trend where votes are manipulated in transit from polling units to collation centres , thus making mockery of citizens rights to choose credible leaders , Eshor advocated for votes to be counted and announced at the polling units.
The Delta AAC Governorship Candidate for the 2027 elections , urged the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), to ensure a free, fair, credible and transparent electoral process by adhering strictly to the provisions of the 2026 Electoral Act , especially Section 27 that votes should be counted , announced , displayed , copies provide to the various party agents at the polling units before proceeding to the collation centres.
On the rising wave of insecurity and economic hardship , Engr Eshor tasked government at all levels to take more firm and proactive steps to ensure that citizens sleep with their two eyes closed , move around without fear of abductions , and are able to survive the harsh economic situation through more humane interventions in price hikes of goods and services.
The Delta Guber hopeful assured Deltans of his party's pro people policies and programmes designed to give them the dignity they deserve as citizens of the highest revenue generating state in Nigeria.
Eshor , a seasoned engineer, maritime and oil and gas professional entrepreneur and visionary leader, assured Deltans that he is committed to transforming the State through innovation , economic development, and people centred governance.
He therefore tasked Deltans who are yet to process their Permanent Voters Cards ( PVCs), to avail themselves of the current window offered by INEC, to register and obtain their PVCs , which he described as their power to effect a change in the forthcoming general elections.
