The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr. Joseph Otumara, former Commissioner for Housing and Health, Delta State.

Dr. Otumara, a respected medical doctor, administrator, and political leader from the Itsekiri nation in Delta South Senatorial District, served Delta State in different capacities with dedication and distinction.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, Speaker Guwor described the late Otumara as “a patriot and a political pillar of Delta South who gave his best to the service of the people.”

Guwor said Dr. Otumara’s death is a huge loss to Delta State and to the Itsekiri nation, noting that as Commissioner for Housing and later Health, he contributed immensely to strengthening the two sectors and improving access to a better life for Deltans.

Beyond public service, the Speaker stated that the late Otumara was a political leader, mentor, and bridge-builder who remained committed to the unity and progress of Delta State.

The Speaker added that he and the late Otumara shared roots in Delta South Senatorial District, and that the former Commissioner remained a father-figure and voice of wisdom to many political leaders in the district and across the state.

“On behalf of the Delta State House of Assembly and Warri South West Constituency, I commiserate with his immediate family, the Itsekiri nation, the people of Delta South, and the government of Delta State. We pray God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” Guwor stated.

The Speaker prayed that the legacies of service, compassion, and leadership left by Dr. Otumara would continue to inspire future generations.
