FOILED ATTEMPTS AT CONSENSUS FOR MUTU ——PEOPLE’S POWER REJECTED THE GATHERING OF “VULTURES” IN PATANI:
Monday 11th May, 2026
As the APC primaries draw nearer, earlier today, some desperate individuals and self-acclaimed political leaders attempted to manipulate the name of the party to push for the endorsement of Hon. Nicholas Mutu for an unprecedented 8th term bid in Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency. However, their failed plot was met with overwhelming resistance from party faithful, community leaders, elders, youths, and concerned stakeholders across the constituency, who openly rejected the move.
Aggrieved voices from Bomadi and Patani lamented that Hon. Mutu, having occupied the position since 1999, can no longer continue to hold the constituency hostage without meaningful grassroots connection or impactful representation. According to the people, Mutu only appears during election seasons with money bags aimed at inducing voters while remaining absent from the real struggles and aspirations of the masses. This time, however, the people have become wiser, more enlightened and politically conscious, boldly saying no to recycled leadership and demanding genuine, responsive, and effective representation that reflects the yearnings of the people.
Similarly, in Bomadi, in what many have described as another desperate attempt to force himself on the people, Hon. Nicholas Mutu allegedly influenced the LGA Party Chairman to convene a meeting of Ward Chairmen for the purpose of signing an endorsement document in his favour. Interestingly, 7 out of the 10 Ward Chairmen reportedly boycotted the meeting, while many LGA executives from the affected wards also refused to participate, further exposing the growing rejection of his ambition across the constituency.
This development clearly reveals the desperation surrounding the failed endorsement agenda and strongly confirms that the people no longer want imposition or political monopoly.
It must also be clearly stated that His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has neither endorsed nor supported any consensus candidate for the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency race, as the Governor firmly believes that true consensus can only emerge through the agreement of all aspirants involved. Consequently, a transparent, open, and level-playing-ground primary election will be conducted next week. There shall be no shortcut to the Federal House of Representatives this time around, as the people remain resolute in their determination to reclaim their mandate and enthrone credible leadership.
