Delta Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers, Armed Robbers, Recover

As part of effort to curb crime across the state, the operatives of Delta State Police have arrested suspected kidnappers along with suspected armed robbers.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a press release that was made available to journalists in Asaba.

The statement reads, “The Delta State Police Command has recorded further breakthroughs in ongoing intelligence-led operations targeting kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal arms proliferation across the state."

"On 29 April 2026, at about 2010 hours, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Shehu Malami (male, 45 years) at Ogor Market, Ughelli."

"The suspect later led operatives to his hideout in Agbarha-Otor, where one (1) AK-47 rifle and sixty-three (63) rounds of live ammunition were recovered."

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is part of a kidnapping syndicate terrorizing Ughelli, Agbarho, Sapele, Warri, and other areas in the state. Effort to arrest other members of his gang is ongoing."

"On 02 May 2026 at about 0835 hours, the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, acting on credible intelligence, mobilized and led operatives of Buffalo, Crack, and Operation Delta Shield (ODS) squads to a bush near the Customs Check Point along the Benin–Asaba Expressway."

"A search of the area led to the recovery of one (1) AK-47 rifle, six (6) rounds of live ammunition, and one (1) Beretta pistol. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to arrest the suspects."

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the tempo against criminal elements.

He also urged residents to monitor, and report suspicious persons or movement in their environment promptly to the police while assuring them that their identities will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
