NUJ Sapele Re-elects Agbajor, Swears In New Executive Council

Comrade Nelson Obukowho Agbajor has been re-elected as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, following a peaceful election held on April 25, 2026, in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

The election, conducted at the NUJ Sapele Chapel Secretariat, was supervised by the Delta State Council of the NUJ, led by the State Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, alongside the Acting State Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior.

In a development widely described as a strong vote of confidence, all seven members of the chapel’s executive were returned unopposed. Chapel members and leaders say the outcome reflects the executives’ dedication to service, commitment to members’ welfare, and active participation in chapel affairs.

The newly elected executive team is led by Comrade Nelson Agbajor as Chairman, with Stephanie Ikanone Odiete serving as Vice Chairman and Rita Daniel as Secretary. Others include Esada Uyono as Treasurer.

Additional members of the executive are Dorothy Egwe as Assistant Secretary, Clarkson Ogo as Financial Secretary, and Comrade Peace Caleb as Auditor.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Agbajor expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty for the successful and peaceful conduct of the election. He also thanked members and leaders of the chapel for their continued support and confidence in his leadership.

He noted that the unanimous re-election of the executive indicates satisfaction with their performance during the first tenure, and assured members of improved service delivery in the new term.

The chairman pledged to run an all-inclusive administration and appealed for sustained cooperation and understanding from members to further advance the progress of the chapel.

Performing the swearing-in ceremony, the Delta State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to uphold professionalism, promote inclusiveness, and remain committed to regular chapel activities.

He also encouraged members to participate actively in the ongoing statewide revalidation exercise, emphasizing its importance to the union’s growth and development, while commending the leadership of Comrade Agbajor and wishing the team a successful tenure.

It is noteworthy that the newly elected Chairman of the NUJ Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Nelson Agbajor, has served the union in various capacities over the years. He previously held the position of Assistant Secretary of the chapel, where he distinguished himself through diligence and effectiveness, earning him election as Secretary based on his proven track record and performance.

Following his impactful service, Comrade Agbajor was elected Chairman of the chapel. During his tenure, he was also appointed as a member of the Caretaker Committee of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, Asaba, under the administration of Comrade Michael Ikeogwu.

In recognition of his pragmatic leadership style, dedication, and contributions to the growth of the union, he further served as Secretary of the Delta State NUJ Elections/Credentials Committee during the 2023 NUJ elections. He has also been an active member of several committees at the state council level.

Academically, Comrade Agbajor is well accomplished. He holds a National Diploma in Mass Communication from Auchi Polytechnic, a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Benin, and a Master’s degree (M.A.) in Mass Communication, also from the University of Benin.
