Dignitaries Gather to Bid Farewell to Israel Ogbue as he is Laid to Rest

Dignitaries across the state, top political officeholders, and business tycoons have gathered to bid a farewell to Sir Israel Chinwuba Ogbue at his country home.
Sir Israel Chinwuba Ogbue KSC was born on February 18, 1927, and passed away on February 18, 2026, marking a century-long life described by family and associates as one of service, integrity, and deep faith.
The solemn ceremony took place at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Onicha Olona, in Delta State, where the Bishop of the Diocese of Asaba, Rt. Revd. Kingsley Obuh officiated the service and led prayers in honour of the deceased.
In a tribute delivered on behalf of the family, Ebele Ogbue described their father as a man who lived a fulfilled and impactful life, leaving behind a lasting legacy. He noted that despite the deceased’s advanced age, his passing remains deeply felt by his children and loved ones.
“Our father lived a remarkable and accomplished life. He left footprints in the sands of time and impacted his community and Nigeria at large. No matter how old one’s father is, his absence is always felt,” he said.
The family expressed confidence that the late Ogbue had gone to rest in a better place and pledged to uphold his values. They highlighted his strong moral principles, describing him as a man of integrity, discipline, and unwavering faith in God.
According to the tribute, the deceased was also known for his hard work, commitment to family, and dedication to education, values that his children say continue to guide them.
A Bible reading taken from the Book of Revelation, Chapter 7, was delivered by Olisaemeka Ogbue, reflecting on themes of eternal rest and salvation. The passage emphasized hope, victory over tribulation, and the promise of everlasting peace for the faithful.
In his sermon, Bishop Obuh described the late Ogbue as a devoted servant of God and a committed member of the Anglican Church, noting his role as a Knight of the Church and his contributions to both religious and community development.
“We give thanks to God for a life well spent. He served God, the church, and humanity with his resources and strength. Living to such an age is itself a testimony of God’s grace,” the bishop said.
The cleric urged attendees to reflect on the virtues of the deceased and to live lives marked by service, humility, and faith, adding that true legacy lies in a positive impact on others.
The funeral attracted several prominent personalities from across Delta State and beyond, including the State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and former governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.
Also in attendance were Senator Ned Nwoko, members of the House of Representatives such as Victor Nwokolo and Ngozi Okolie, as well as the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Arthur Akpowowo, the Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, APC Chairman, Solomon Arenyeka, and Aniocha North LGA Chairman, Bazim Chinyere, alongside other political leaders and government officials.
Among those connected to the family is Tony Elumelu, Chairman of United Bank for Africa, who is a son-in-law of the late Sir Israel Ogbue, further reflecting the prominence and far-reaching ties of the family.
Local government representatives, party officials, business leaders, and associates of the deceased were also present, reflecting the wide network of influence and relationships built by the late Ogbue during his lifetime.
Family members, friends, and well-wishers described the late patriarch as a bridge-builder and a man whose life was dedicated to uplifting others, pledging to preserve his legacy for future generations.
