Delta Launches Plate Detect To Boost Road Safety

By Admin

The Delta State Directorate of Transport has launched the Automatic Number Plate Recognition System to enhance road safety and reduce traffic violations and accidents across the state.

This was disclosed in an awareness campaign circular by the ministry of transportation in Asaba on the 13 of March 2026.

In the awareness campaign circular, the ministry said, "the  technology uses cameras to scan vehicle number plates and detect traffic violations such as expired vehicle particulars, over-speeding, and running red lights."

It added that "When a possible violation is detected, a call or text message will be sent to the vehicle owner’s registered phone number, directing them to the site as "www.paydelta.ng" for verification."

The ministry warmed that "failure to comply may stop the renewal of vehicle particulars and could lead to vehicle impoundment or appearance before a mobile court."

They also caution owners of vehicles to always  update the ministry of change of ownership and phone number details.
