A group of core senior journalists in Delta State has passed a resounding vote of confidence in the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) regarding its management of the upcoming Warri Correspondents’ Chapel election.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, 10 core members of the chapel threw their weight behind the supervising authority, lauding its dedication to a transparent and equitable electoral process ahead of the poll scheduled for Monday, March 16, 2026.

The journalists specifically applauded the State Council, under the leadership of Chairman Comrade Churchill Oyowe, for its professionalism and strict observance of constitutional provisions during the recent Claims and Objections stage.

They observed that the council addressed all raised concerns, including a petition concerning voter eligibility, with thoroughness and impartiality.

“Our confidence in the integrity of the process is anchored on the professionalism, constitutionality and impartiality demonstrated by the State Council in addressing all issues raised by stakeholders,” the statement read.

The group, identifying itself as “core correspondents” of the chapel, urged the national leadership of the NUJ, chapel members, and the public to disregard any narratives aimed at discrediting the process.

They maintained that such statements do not represent the collective stance of the chapel’s membership.

“We strongly urge that the electoral process be allowed to proceed to its logical conclusion without unnecessary interference, undue pressure or attempts by any individual or group to undermine or discredit the exercise,” they added.

The journalists further appealed to all contestants and members to uphold professionalism, decorum, and constructive engagement as campaigns intensify in the lead-up to election day.

They expressed optimism that the Delta State Council would continue to fulfil its supervisory responsibilities with fairness and integrity, ultimately delivering a peaceful and credible election that would bolster the unity and institutional credibility of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel.
