Origho, Former HOS, Advocates For Renewed Welfare For Delta Public Servants

By Andy Emephia

Former Delta State Head of Service , Sir Patrick Origho, has appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to urgently tackle the welfare of public servants in the areas of housing and mobility.

The erudite former HOS Delta, noted that without a conducive working environment for Delta public servants , compromise with political office holders may continue unabated.

Speaking with select journalists in Otokutu, Ughelli South LGA, Sir Origho said the public servant need adequate remuneration and encouragement to do their job as the machinery of government.

The former Head of Service however regretted that the once noble engine room of governance , has taken a nosedive , as the public service has recently been enmeshed in political activities, thus abdicating their neutrality roles .

Origho debunked the notion that has been widely speculated in various quarters about public servants acting as leeways for political graft, strongly stating that public servants are highly disciplined in the discharge of their duties and as such, can't be held responsible for any perceived malfeasance by the political class.

According to Origho , "I want to make bold to say that the notion that the public servants show the political office holders the way to pilfer public funds , is not correct. If a political officer already has a mindset to steal public funds, it's not the public servant that goaded them".

Sir Patrick Origho advised all public servants to remember their first professional calling of professionalism, probity, accountability, and above all, abiding by the ethos of a service that guarantees them pensions and continuity.

The former Head of Service therefore tasked all public servants in Delta to remember their first rules of engagement, which is, service to the people of Delta, adding that they have nothing to lose but gold mines to be inherited as public servants
