The Delta State Taskforce on Environment has placed an outright ban on all forms of markets and illegal motor parks operating in and around flyover construction zones across the state.
The directive, issued under the leadership of the Chairman, Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu, JP, is part of intensified enforcement efforts to restore order, enhance safety, and ensure the timely completion of major infrastructure projects being executed under the administration of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
On Thursday, January 22, 2026, officials of the State Taskforce on Environment commenced a comprehensive sanitation and enforcement exercise as early as 6:00am, in collaboration with the Chief Security Officer of Julius Berger, Warri, Mr. Aniekan Sambo, and the Chairman of the Uvwie Environmental Taskforce, Hon. Collins Ighrakpata.
The exercise covered major flashpoints within the Effurun axis, including Effurun Roundabout, PTI Junction, Osubu Road, and DSC Roundabout areas identified as notorious for indiscriminate trading, roadside hawking, and illegal motor park activities by tricycle and commercial vehicle operators.
Speaking during the operation, the Chairman of the State Taskforce on Environment, Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu, JP, who was represented by the Taskforce Coordinator, Comrade Frank Orogun, explained that the activities of traders and illegal motor parks had become serious obstructions within the operational environment of Julius Berger Construction Company, thereby slowing down work on the ongoing multi-billion-naira flyover projects.
According to him, all traders, hawkers, roadside vendors, and operators of illegal motor parks within the affected areas are directed to vacate immediately, stressing that no exceptions, waivers, or designated trading periods would be allowed.
“No individual or group is permitted to trade or operate motor parks in these restricted areas at any time. Any defaulter will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law, without exception,” he warned.
Comrade Orogun added that the enforcement exercise was necessary to create a conducive and obstruction-free environment that would enable Julius Berger to complete the flyover projects within schedule.
During the operation, Taskforce officials were seen dismantling illegal structures and shanties, clearing road setbacks, and cautioning traders and transport operators against operating within restricted construction zones. Commercial activities that impeded vehicular movement and construction work were promptly removed, while defaulters were educated on relevant environmental laws and urban safety regulations.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Uvwie Environmental Taskforce, Hon. Collins Ighrakpata, warned traders and transport operators to desist from indiscriminate trading and illegal parking, emphasizing that the era of non-compliance had come to an end.
Members of the Delta State Taskforce on Environment reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment across the state, assuring residents that monitoring and enforcement would be sustained. They urged the public to cooperate with government agencies to ensure the successful completion of ongoing projects and the realization of a more environmentally friendly Delta State.
