The Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, High Chief Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, has set up a seventy-two-man Security Vigilante Taskforce  to combat the rising insecurity within the Oko axis of Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Performing the inauguration at the local government secretariat in Asaba,  the Chairman High Chief Obi Kelvin Ezenyili urged the newly inaugurated Oko Community Vigilante Taskforce to ensure a high level of peace and security.

Ezenyili warned that the council would not tolerate a situation where the Vigilante Taskforce will be oppressing law abiding residents of the community

High Chief Ezenyili stressed the need for the taskforce to work in collaboration with Asaba Community Vigilante for effective security within the Oshimili South local government area.

While commending the Ide of Oko Kingdom, High Chief Chiendu Ezenyili, for magnanimously donating six Sienna buses to aid the newly inaugurated Vigilante Taskforce in carrying out their duties, the Chairman  hinted that his administration would support the taskforce with motorbikes to ease security surveillance, especially during the rainy season, with the approval of the legislative arm of the council in next year's budget.
High Chief Kelvin Ezenyili said security required the shared responsibility and active cooperation of all stakeholders, stressing that the essence of spreading the tentacles of vigilantes to the nooks and crannies of the local government area was to ensure that crime was brought to a bare minimum.

The Oshimili South local government council chairman commended security agencies for their deliberate and determined responses to security breaches in the local government area.

At the event, various security heads, including Area Commander, Divisional Police Officers, military and DSS officers took turns briefing the newly inaugurated personnel of the Oko Community Vigilante Taskforce, and warned them not to use their position to oppress people.
They urged them to operate within the limit of their power, by handing over suspects arrested to the police for further investigation.

He said, " Today's event is of great benefit to everyone and a strategic step towards addressing security issues in Oshimili South Local Government."

" Without an iota of doubt, the primary business of every Government is the security of lives and properties, and  it is on this premise that meaningful development can be achieved in any town or city."

However, " security is a collective effort because it requires the shared responsibility and active cooperation of all stakeholders, from the individual, communities, government, and business organizations. The core principle is that an attack on one is an attack on all, requiring a unified response."

In a remark, the chairman of the Vigilante Taskforce, Francis Nwanze gave an assurance that they would carry out the duties diligently without fear with the training they have received.

The high point of the inauguration was the formal handover of six buses donated by High Chief Chiendu Ezenyili to the vigilante taskforce by the Chairman of Oshimili South local government council.
