The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has constituted an 11-member ad hoc committee to engage political candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee, chaired by Edward Ogude, is expected to identify and reach out to candidates contesting for the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and Delta State House of Assembly seats, particularly those of Delta State origin.
Other members are Godfrey Ubaka, Mercy Muemuifo, Andy Emephia, Emmanuel Enebeli, Shedrack Onitsha, Stephanie Ikanone-Odiete, Barth Ozah, Theophilus Onojeghen and Patrick Ochei. Felix Ekwu will serve as secretary.
The committee is mandated to organise interviews, town hall meetings, debates and other media engagements at the Council's State Secretariat in Asaba.
It is also expected to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates, irrespective of their political affiliations, while publicising the engagements through media platforms and relevant stakeholders.
The Council further charged the committee to promote ethical, accurate and issue-based election reporting, develop schedules and guidelines for the engagements for approval by the Council Chairman, and maintain records of its activities.
The Council stressed that the committee must operate in strict compliance with the NUJ Code of Ethics and remain politically neutral, warning against any form of endorsement of candidates or political parties.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the State Secretary, Comrade Felix Ekwu, and dated November 5, 2026.
