The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, has called for stronger collaboration between the Police, traditional rulers and community stakeholders to address security challenges and sustain peace across the state.
Erale made the call during his familiarisation visit to the Warri Area Command, where he engaged police officers and community stakeholders on security matters.
As part of the visit, the police commissioner paid a courtesy visit to the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Kingsley Emakpo Orereh, Igbi II, where he highlighted the importance of traditional institutions in promoting peace and supporting security initiatives at the grassroots.
He urged traditional rulers and community leaders to sustain their cooperation with the Police, noting that effective security management required collective efforts to protect lives and property.
Addressing officers and stakeholders at the Warri Area Command, Erale stressed the need for community policing, urging residents to provide credible and timely information to security agencies.
He assured members of the public that the identities of informants would be treated with utmost confidentiality but cautioned against providing false or misleading information motivated by personal grievances, rivalry or sentiments.
The commissioner also reiterated the importance of respect for human rights, warning that police officers found violating the rights of citizens would face appropriate disciplinary action.
He specifically directed officers to desist from arrest by proxy, while urging community stakeholders to promote tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
Erale emphasised that all stakeholders must work together to prevent unnecessary tension and actions capable of disrupting peace in their communities.
The visit forms part of the commissioner's ongoing familiarisation tour of police formations and key stakeholders across Delta State.
The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, on November 4, 2026.
