The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists and criminals in separate operations in Agbarho and Oghara, recovering six firearms, four live cartridges and 10 expended cartridges.
The police also recovered a battle axe, a jackknife and other incriminating items during the operations.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
Edafe said operatives of the Command Anti-Cultism Unit, Sector 3, Ovwian-Aladja, arrested a 34-year-old suspect, Akpoghene Goodluck, along the Agbarho-Warri Expressway on November 4.
He said the suspect was arrested after allegedly attempting to evade police operatives during a patrol.
A search of the premises where he was apprehended reportedly led to the recovery of two locally made guns and 10 expended cartridges.
According to the police, further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, 50-year-old Solomon Arhugberume James, from whose residence a pump-action gun and a live cartridge were recovered.
The two suspects allegedly claimed to be members of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security outfit but failed to produce identification documents to support their claims.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Oghara Police Division arrested a 23-year-old suspected Eiye confraternity member, Clinton Awuerowswo, popularly known as Clinbaby.
Edafe said Awuerowswo was arrested on October 23 after allegedly remaining at large following the recovery of firearms from his residence on March 23.
Items recovered in connection with the case included a Beretta pistol, two locally made cut-to-size guns, three live cartridges, a battle axe and a jackknife.
The police spokesman said the suspect allegedly admitted ownership of the weapons and membership of the Eiye confraternity during preliminary investigation.
He added that investigations into the cases were ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel Erale, warned against cultism and illegal possession of firearms, vowing to sustain operations against criminal groups across the state.
The commissioner also urged residents to provide credible information to the police, assuring them that the identities of informants would remain confidential.
